Antique wall-mounted coat rack in solid walnut, Italian origin, Renaissance-style, estimated period 1930–1940, dimensions 153 cm wide by 31 cm high by 22.5 cm deep, brown colour, in good used condition with minor signs of age and marks.
Description from the seller
Elegant and imposing wall coat rack (or hall entryway) made of solid walnut, finely hand-carved. The piece stands out for its rigorous, architectural design, typical of the Italian Neo-Renaissance taste of the late nineteenth century. Artistic and Construction Details:
Central Body: Characterized by a sequence of six square relief panels, each adorned at the center with a generous wooden turned knob, both functional and decorative.
Mouldings: The edge is embellished with a dentil cornice or beadwork frieze that runs along the entire perimeter, giving it a solid and monumental appearance.
Ends: The upper and lower extremities feature architectural elements with foliage carvings and scrolls, echoing classical capitals.
Condition: The piece is in generally good condition for its era. It has a beautiful natural patina of the wood. There are slight signs of wear and small residues of white paint on the side (as visible in the detail photos), easily removable with conservative cleaning. On the back are the original metal wall-mount hooks.
Initial restoration work has been carried out, including treatment against wood-boring insects and application of oil.
