Description from the seller
MG A Roadster – 1600 Motor, 5-Versnellingsbak
GENERAL:
“MG A, A Class Of Its Own.” The MG A is the quintessential example of the classic English sports car: affordable, light, elegant and a joy to drive. No wonder this was one of the best-selling British sports cars of its time.
This left-hand drive specimen began its life in 1959 as a 1500 in the favorable climate of the state of Washington (USA). In 2002 the car was shipped to the Netherlands, where it was extensively restored and upgraded to 1600 specification. From 2002 to 2026 the MG has been owned by one family and is now offered to the next enthusiast.
BODYWORK & PAINTWORK:
The MG presents itself in a stunning and rare color combination: deep black lacquer paired with a red vinyl-leather interior. In 2002 the bodywork was professionally repainted. In February 2026 the car was professionally polished, giving the paint a beautiful shine again.
Over the years there have been light to moderate signs of use (see detail photos), appropriate for a classic car that has also been used. The body is otherwise in excellent and original condition. The chrome work and rubbers are in reasonable condition.
The car is adorned with chrome wire wheels, a chrome luggage rack and Lucas driving lamps at the front. A badge bar has also been mounted for the grille and a sun visor on the windscreen. The black canvas soft top shows normal signs of use and in addition there is a black artificial leather tonneau cover. The MG is supplied with adjustable side windows, wind wing visors and a spare wheel. Front and rear lighting was renewed in 2002 and is still in good condition.
INTERIOR:
The red vinyl-leather interior was restored in 2002 and is still in neat condition. The upholstery is free of cracks or noteworthy damage.
The equipment is relatively complete for a classic roadster and includes, among other things, a center armrest, heating and a Ten Auto radio with external antenna and dashboard speaker. In the luggage compartment are the spare wheel, a jack and tools.
MECHANICAL:
During the restoration the car was equipped with a revised 1600 engine (1588 cc), fitted with twin SU carburetors and individual stainless steel K&N air filters. The engine bay presents neat and well maintained.
In 2005 the MG was equipped with a modern 5-speed gearbox. This provides lower RPM at cruising speed, lower fuel consumption and more comfortable handling. This MGA is therefore especially suitable for longer tours and holidays – the best of both worlds.
The drivetrain was adjusted and renewed during the restoration. The chrome wire wheels are fitted with Vredestein Classic Sprint tires with sufficient tread. The car runs and shifts well.
As the car has been driven little in recent years, a service and replacement of the rear brake cylinders for the new season is recommended, so that many carefree kilometers can again be driven.
DOCUMENTATION:
Invoices for the restoration, including the paintwork (2002) and engine overhaul (2005), are present. In addition, appraisal reports and various other invoices are available. In the most recent appraisal in 2020 the MG was valued at € 29,500.
OTHER INFORMATION:
A particularly neat and tastefully composed MG A Roadster with a powerful 1600 engine and comfortable 5-speed gearbox. An ideal classic for both relaxed touring and longer trips, with a nice history and long family ownership.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
