Description from the seller

Old equal-arm balance, made of brass. This type of instrument, also known as a two-pan balance, is one of the most classic weighing models, historically used to measure the mass of objects by direct comparison with standard weights.
It consists of a horizontal beam (crossbar) with two pans suspended by chains at equidistant ends from a central axis.
To weigh an object, place it on one pan and add known weights on the other until the beam sits perfectly horizontal.
They were frequently used by jewelers to weigh precious metals or in pharmacies/apothecaries for medicines and medicinal powders.

Dimensions:
25x19x8cm
