Description from the seller

For sale is a rare, antique chipboard box (bride’s box) made of softwood. Such boxes were used in the 18th and 19th centuries as traditional love offerings or to store treasures such as ribbons and jewelry.

Details & Painting:

Motif: On the lid there is a fine hand-painted scene of a couple in historical dress, framed by floral ornaments.

Inscription: "Meine Liebe gegen Dir, blühet immer für und für" – a classic token of love from the era.

Dating: On the lid marked with 1708 as well as the initials "J. L.".

Construction: Oval shape made of curved span wood, fixed at the bottom with original wooden nails. The inside shows the authentic, dark wooden patina.

Condition:
Age-appropriate, honest patina. The painting is remarkably well preserved for its age. There are material-typical signs of use, small cracks in the span wood as well as chipping at the lower edge (see detail photos), which emphasize the antique character and authenticity. No modern overpainting detectable.
