Description from the seller
These two oak wooden barrels, reinforced with wrought-iron hoops, preserve all the dignity of utilitarian objects crafted with craftsmanship in the 19th century. Their size—about 60 cm tall by 40 cm wide—places them in the category of medium casks, originally conceived to store small quantities of valuable liquids: young wines, spirits, oils, or even artisanal vinegars. The oak, with its dense fiber and distinctive aroma, was the preferred choice to preserve and enrich the contents, while the wrought-iron hoops guaranteed watertightness and structural resistance.
The passage of time has left them with a dark, deep patina, the product of natural metal oxidation and the noble aging of the wood. The marks, minor irregularities, and wear on the edges speak of long use and a life tied to daily work, perhaps in rural cellars, distillation workshops, or traditional trading warehouses. Each barrel seems to hold an echo of its original function, as if it still carried the faint scent of what it once contained.
Today, pieces like these have found a highly valued second life. They are commonly used as decorative elements in country homes, restaurants with a traditional aesthetic, or cellars seeking to convey authenticity. They are also used as bases for side tables, plant stands, display pieces in ethnographic museums, or even as ornamental containers in gardens. Their presence adds character, history, and a rustic touch that is hard to reproduce with modern objects.
Certified shipping and careful packaging.
