Description from the seller
SWITZERLAND. Bern. 5 Francs. 1948
- Value: 5 Francs.
- Year: 1948.
- Inscriptions: On the obverse, HELVETIA accompanying the female allegory seated beside a child bearing a branch, with the signature of the engraver WEGER; on the reverse, 5 FR · CONSTITUTIO · ANNI MDCCCXLVIII · HELVETIAE FORTIORIS FUNDAMENTUM · 1948, with a Swiss cross at the bottom.
- Grade: MS64 (NGC).
Commemorative coin issued to mark the centennial of the Swiss Federal Constitution of 1848, the foundational text of the modern Swiss federal state. The obverse features an allegorical composition of high artistic quality, where Helvetia is depicted as a maternal and protective figure, accompanied by a child symbolizing the nation’s future, with a smooth and balanced modeling of the volumes. The reverse, solemn and epigraphic in character, stands out for its clear typographic arrangement and the strong symbolic load of the Swiss cross, reinforcing the institutional message of stability and constitutional continuity. The piece retains an attractive original luster with a light and homogeneous patina, well-defined relief and clean fields, showing only light contact marks consistent with the MS64 grade, making it a highly representative and valued piece within 20th-century Swiss commemorative numismatics.
Disclaimer: For orders shipped outside the European Union, I want to make absolutely clear that I do ship from Spain, which means that if the package is sent to any country outside the European Union, and/or inside the EU that has a special tax agreement (example: Canary Islands), it might be stopped at your local customs and you might be asked to pay taxes.
