Description from the seller

Authentic antique Russian icon depicting the holy monk-saints Zosima and Savvatij, founders of the Solovki Monastery, shown frontal with a halo and monastic robes. The saint on the left holds a scroll, symbolizing spiritual doctrine. At the top there is a Christ blessing among the clouds.

The composition is enriched by a multicolored ornamental decoration with stylized floral motifs typical of late 19th-century popular Russian production.

Good overall condition.
Visible signs of wear consistent with age, small color losses.
A hole in the lower right part is present, visible but not structural, and a woodworm hole on the back.

Inscriptions:
Inscriptions in Cyrillic identifying the saints (“Св. Зосима и Савватий”), present on the front and the back.

Era:
Russia, late 19th century (approximately 1870–1900)

Medium:
Tempera on wooden panel with gold ground

Support:
Wooden panel with original rear crossbar, typical of traditional Russian icons to prevent deformation.

Measurements: 22 x 17.5 x 4 cm (without frame)

The item will be shipped already framed as shown in the photograph (the frame is not contemporaneous).
