TRF tube radio receiver from the 1920s (circa 1926–1927), semi-industrial handmade construction, with 4 tubes, rigid point‑to‑point wiring and external long antenna; physical condition Excellent, functional condition Not tested, weight 4 kg, dimensions 20 × 18 × 34 cm, one additional element included, brand Unknown, model Unknown.
Description from the seller
A valve TRF-type radio receiver (Tuned Radio Frequency), from the 1920s, semi-industrial assembly
Two air-variable condensers mounted side by side, operated by two separate knobs
Heavy construction, thick boards
This is a typical signature of TRF sets, where each RF stage must be tuned separately
You can see 4 vacuum tubes (rear view) with bases of an old type, arranged as follows:
1 RF tube
1 additional RF tube or detector/feedback
1 detector
1 AF (audio frequency) amplification
This is a high-end configuration for the period, intended for a knowledgeable amateur or a laboratory
Rigid point‑to‑point wiring with cotton-sheathed wires and old tin-plated solder
The coils are hand-wound on an ancient insulating support (bakelite/ebonite)
Selectivity set by inductance + capacitance
Extremely neat workmanship
Passive components:
Wound resistors
Mica/paper capacitors
No power transformer visible → probably:
separate power supply
batteries (very common before 1930)
Original operation (concrete):
External long antenna
Manual tuning on 2 RF circuits
Fine adjustment of reaction
Detection
Output to a high-impedance headset or external AF amplifier
Dated 1927 or during the generalization of the superheterodyne was observed
simplification of controls
gradual disappearance of complex TRFs
High-end radio kit
Artisanal amateur-made craftsmanship by an expert
Small local pre-industrial manufacturer
This is a very beautiful example of radio from the early days, with:
excellent technical readability and visible components, a scientific/laboratory aesthetic, and authentic integrity intact
