In no other book do you get so close to Marilyn; one can feel the approaching end, for Bert Stern photographed this series only a few days before her death, and Marilyn appears exhausted and is no longer truly part of this world. The viewer sees all contact sheets from the "Last Sitting" and selected enlargements in black-and-white or color. Noteworthy are the destructions Marilyn left on the contact prints. Some have been crossed out with red pen, others were destroyed with a knife. This alone has made these images visual classics.
