Fulvio Roiter presents here 12 photographs taken between 1973 and 1976 in Africa, in the Sahel, in Niger, in Mali and in the north of Côte d'Ivoire, as well as in Tunisia.
Fulvio Roiter was born and spent his entire youth 35 kilometers from Venice. Quickly passionate about photography, he was part of the amateur photographers group La Gondola with Paolo Monti, Gianni Berengo Gardin, Giuseppe Bruno and a few others. His prestigious books on Venice and the one on Saint Francis of Assisi’s Umbrian region, both published by La Guilde du Livre in Lausanne, enjoyed extraordinary success in Europe, and Roiter undertook numerous trips that led to other books, including this Africa one.
The photographic oeuvre of Fulvio Roiter makes him one of the most important Italian photographers of the twentieth century. As early as 1959, the illustrious photography critic and historian Giuseppe Turroni called him a “child prodigy” of Italian photography. In 1982 Roiter joined the collection of Great Photographers directed by Roméo Martinez, who was editor-in-chief of the Swiss photography magazine Camera. In 2009, an exhibition and a catalog raisonné ‘Dieci fotografi d’oro’ (10 golden photographs) highlighted him alongside other Italian photographers sometimes quite different, such as Gabriele Basilico, Giovanni Berengo Gardin, Mario Cresci, Mimmo Jodice, Franco Fontana, Guido Guidi and a few others.
In one of his texts, Naomi Rosenblum, the famous American photography historian, stresses the harmonious synthesis of aesthetic principles and humanist values that Fulvio Roiter achieves in his work.
A book from my personal collection kept with the greatest care. Protected shipping very effectively and guaranteed international tracking.
