Description from the seller

Small but precious collection of Owls, 4 pieces.

1) Terracotta plate faced with glass tiles and bearing a highly decorated image of a beautiful colorful owl. Size 24.5 x 24.5 cm with a height of 7 cm and weighs 1100 grams. Perfect for a collection. Early 21st century.

2) Sleeping owl in Suar wood, with the appearance of an old wise one, of Indonesian origin, hand-carved to excellent quality. (It is a wood grain, not a crack)
Height 14 cm, width 10 cm, thickness 9.5 cm and weighs 305 g. Late 20th century.

3) Owl in bronze cast in lost-wax technique, of excellent workmanship and well defined. Of Indian origin, it still bears the original export sticker.
Height 6.8 cm, width 6 cm, thickness 5.8 cm and weighs 210 g. 1970s/1980s of the 20th century.

4) The smallest but the most iconic... Small sculpture in green patinated bronze depicting an owl with wings spread, made in contemporary era (around the late 2000s).
The work echoes the models of ancient Mediterranean votive bronzes, where the owl was a sacred animal to the goddess Athena and a symbol of wisdom, protection and the ability to see beyond darkness. At the same time, some rigidity of the body and the synthesis of forms recall, by suggestion, the archaising aesthetics of certain Etruscan bronzes, especially in the small votive figures intended for sanctuaries.

Approximately 3 cm high, wingspan over 5 cm and weight about 25 grams, the miniature concentrates in small dimensions the presence of a larger statue. About year 2000, Etruscan zone in Tuscany, Italy.
The antiqued green patina enhances the archaeological effect, making it suitable for a Wunderkammer or a collector’s desk. It is not an ancient artifact, but a free contemporary interpretation that pays homage to both Athena’s owl iconography and the Etrusco-Italian taste for small votive bronzes, offering a decorative object with strong symbolic power.
