This piece is a Vintage French nightstand or sideboard, typically from the 1960s and 1970s. It features a distinctive marquetry (wood inlay) in a chevron or diamond pattern on the front of the drawer, often using cherry (merisier) or rosewood.
Key Design Features
Style: It has mid-century modern styling, with hints of Louis XVI or Hollywood Regency influences, and elegant tapered legs.
Decoration: The drawer is often decorated with delicate floral marquetry motifs, and finished with brass or gilded bronze knobs.
Legs: It has long, tapered, "compass" legs, typically terminating in brass sabots (metal tips).
These tables were often produced as matching pairs for bedrooms and were known for their high-quality French manufacturing (marked with the "NF" quality standard).
