AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Napoleon III-era Glove Box in Rosewood and Mother-of-Pearl

Elegant rectangular gloves box in rosewood veneer (or palissandre) opening by a hinged lid. Refined workmanship from the Napoleon III period (mid-19th century).

Decoration and Inlay:
• The lid features a rich marquetry decoration of white mother-of-pearl flowers and scrolling foliate motifs.
• In the center, a cartouche with a dynamic shape (monogram-free).
• Double border of narrow mouldings outlining the box’s lines, present on the lid and the front but with some missing segments.
• Brass chiselled escutcheon for the lock entry.

Condition and Details:
• The piece is presented with its original lacquer, showing a beautiful patina.
• Notable point: Comes with its functional key.
• Interior in natural wood.
• Condition note: Overall good condition. Some light veneer lifts and small losses of the edge fillets (normal wear for the period), not affecting the overall aesthetics. Defects shown in photos.
