"According to my colleague Rita, who has also worked there for 32 years, I would have walked my path 3,500 times," Guido Burggraeve said at the time of his farewell. "I myself have long since lost count. My finest task consisted of teaching people to approach nature."
Guido Burggraeve retained his position as conservator until his retirement in 2003. He was then succeeded by the current conservator Kris Struyf. Burggraeve was later permitted to bear the title of emeritus conservator.
