Two beech plywood bentwood chairs, designed by Drevounia and made in Czechoslovakia circa the 1950s, in good used condition with small signs of age and stains, dimensions 45 cm wide, 43 cm deep, 84–87 cm high with seat heights of 44–46 cm.
Description from the seller
Original marked Drevounia chairs, designed in the early 1950s and developed by Thonet. Beautifully designed timeless design made of bent beech plywood and connected to a round steel frame. The chairs are very sturdy and very comfortable due to the pre-formed ergonomic seating shell.
Then and now true eye-catchers with age: really highly sought after by enthusiasts of Mid-Century Modern (MCM) and vintage design. This set is in good used and well-maintained condition with few signs of use, see photos; given the age it is still very collectible!
Drevounia (often in collaboration with the export brand Ligna) was a Czechoslovak state trading company (Podnik zahraničného obchodu, PZO) that during the communist period (primarily from the 1950s to the 1990s) was responsible for exporting wood and furniture products to the abroad.
Today the name is worldwide known in vintage and design markets mainly because of the mid-century bentwood (bent wood) chairs that were exported under this label.
The role of Drevounia: Drevounia itself was not a furniture manufacturer, but a centralized state import and export company. Furniture traded through them often carried a paper label or sticker with the text "Drevounia - Made in Czechoslovakia".
• Actual producers: The chairs were produced in nationalized Czechoslovak furniture factories. The best known of these was TON (Bystřice pod Hostýnem), the original and historic factory of the world-renowned furniture maker Michael Thonet, which was nationalized by the communist regime after World War II.
• Popular designs: Through Drevounia, many iconic designs were distributed worldwide, including the classic Viennese café chairs, Thonet model No. 209 and No. 210 (favorites of architect Le Corbusier), and designs in the style of Josef Hoffmann.
Dimensions of these 2 billiard-, pub-, bistro chairs are:
45 cm wide, 84–87 cm high, 43 cm deep and seat height is 44–46 cm,
This super cool chair set is in sturdy condition, good for many more years of use.
Material: beechwood with a nice patina.
Weight: 5 kg each
Please take a good look at the many photos.
This chair set will be sent by registered (insured) mail and well packed, but can also of course be collected in the Roosendaal-Bergen op Zoom area.
