Bedspread - 246 cm - 255 cm

Imposing pure silk matrimonial bedspread in large size from the late 1800s to early 1900s in the Louis-Philippe style.
Given its ample dimensions, it consists of two silk panels sewn together on the inside, so only a central seam is visible, but it does not detract from its beauty. They were sewn so well that the embroidery and designs align perfectly. A detail that becomes apparent only when you get close. Historically, it was common to sew fabrics for different uses, diversifying them.
In terms of color, the background is light blue while the embroidered designs are gold. It is all embroidery, with circles worked with outer lines to enrich it, and at the center a flower. Below are embroidered drooping willow leaves, like a weeping willow. It is all a geometric work with these motifs placed asymmetrically, one up high and one down low. It is not the classic damask, but embroidery with motifs arranged as if it were a tapestry. This work continues on the two side parts and at the foot of the bed.
It is of large proportions, precisely because antique beds were taller; indeed, on my bed, which, although from the 1700s, has modern slats, it reaches to the ground. It measures 246 cm in length and 255 cm in width, to which a 14 cm fringe should be added, so it fits a bed perfectly. A straight, simple fringe that echoes the colors of the bedspread. It was made for me by my family precisely for the beauty of its colors and the type of silk, but it is clear it was used very little because the silk is in excellent condition, as is the fringe. They used to have a lot of linens made, thinking of the dowry to give to their children, and given the large number of bedspreads I found many that were never used. The fact that it has two small stains typical of cashing, which I photographed, attests to its age and proves that this is an antique bedspread, but they do not diminish its beauty. The high quality is due to the pure silk used.
I have therefore written, good condition precisely for these two stains; otherwise it is in excellent condition.
My ancestors placed great importance on the home and loved updating the drapes, always having linens made that expressed beauty and refinement. It is of large dimensions including the fringe because, as I have already written, antique beds were taller, so it fits a bed perfectly and reaches the floor.
It is part of the dowry that I inherited and, given the large number of bedspreads in different fabrics and colors, many of them I am selling so they can have a new life. Given its ample dimensions, I used it also as a sofa cover, thanks to its beautiful colors, and as a tablecloth under a wall-adjacent table, reaching the floor, with a white embroidered top to showcase the designs.
It easily matches the colors, fabrics, and drapery of a home. Beautiful to use on an antique bed to emphasize its importance, but it also stands out on a simple modern bed. In fact, I would say it would add a touch of elegance and refinement. It easily fits with either a classic or modern decor. When something is beautiful, you find a use for it. One only needs imagination and above all to love the home furnishings in which one lives. Every home reflects the taste and refinement of its inhabitants. The purchaser will decide how to use it.
