A large, finely engraved 18th century view of Den Haag from the Haagse Bos published by Boitet with Riemer and Giessen, on two copper plates and hand coloured, a strong addition for serious map collectors.

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Old View of the Place over the Vyver, Vyverberg, and ’s Graven-Hof (1730)

Extra large (99 cm wide) and very beautifully engraved 18th-century view of The Hague seen from the direction of the Haagse Bos (northwest) with the North Sea on the horizon. With index of the main buildings. Printed on two copper plates, with the two sides subsequently joined (as published).

Engraved by J. van Giessen.

The plate comes from: 'Description of The Hague,' by Mr. Jacob Riemer (1676-1762), published in Delft by Reinier Boitet, 1730.

The book contains many beautiful engravings of important buildings, churches, monasteries, estates, and castles of The Hague.

The plates are engraved by Gerrit van Giesen (1692-1750), Jan Caspar Phillips (1700-1765), and F. v. Bleyswyck. Published by Reinier Boitet (1680-1750).

Good condition, very thick paper, and very clear print. Several minor repairs, mainly at the crossing of some folds with very limited impact on the image (see image). Otherwise excellent. Folds as published. Very wide margins. Clean paper.
