Mozart - Forty cd's with all the Masterworks - Multiple titles - CD box set - 2004
Well, Beethoven too. But without a doubt Mozart is the greatest composer who ever lived. No wonder you have some of his works in your collection. Here is an unique opportunity to get all of his most-loved compositions in one go. Forty mint CD’s, handsomely packaged and collected in a nice box.
This is no cheap Eastblock set. It features the some of the best European orchestras, including the Dutch Chamber Orchestra, the Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Nieuw Symfonietta and the Dutch Philharmonia. Amongst the soloists we find Emmy Verhey and Derek Han.
No need for info on Mozart, right? Wikipedia put it like this: Despite his short life, Mozarts rapid pace of composition and proficiency from an early age resulted in more than 800 works, virtually every Western classical genre of his time. Many of these compositions are acknowledged as pinnacles of the symphonic, concertante, chamber, operatic and choral repertoires. Mozart is widely regarded as one of the greatest composers, with his music admired for its "melodic beauty, its formal elegance and its richness of harmony and texture".
And here you have collected not all 800, but indeed his masterworks. Included are symphonies, serenades, piano and violin concertos, string quartets and quintets, piano trios and sonatas, violin sonatas, even flute concerts and of course his mass, ending with the fantastic requiem. The cd’s are wonderfully packed, color-coded, sorted, named and numbered. Check the pictures!
The box was released by Brilliant Records, which has a brilliant story behind it. It is a record label connected to, really, an European chains of drugstores. Founded by the Dutch Kruidvat, it expanded to Superdrug (UK), the German Aldi and Rossmann supermarkets. Rumor has it that the owner of Kruidvat is a big music lover and wanted to treat his customers to affordable repertoire, as classical used to be extra expensive. Brilliant started to collect recordings of the big ones: Beethoven, Mozart, Verdi. They bought the rights or acquired temporary rights. And these are the Mozart ones. There were available separately, but here they are nicely collected, released together in 2004. A rare find.
I hope you forgive me for not listing all the performed works on these crammed forty cd’s. Please check the pictures, all info is on the backs, including details of the recordings. An incomplete list of performers: Philharmonia Orchestra, Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Europe,Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, Nieuw Sinfonietta Amsterdam, Amati Chamber Orchestra, Chilingirian Quartet and Orlando Quartet. Violinists include Emmy Verhey, Joseph Silverstein and Gil Sharon, pianists Derek Han and Klára Würtz. Included too is a cd-sized booklet with 32 pages of info on the man and his music.
As stated, the whole lot is in excellent condition. Again: check the pictures! Never played, it was an unappreciated gift that went straight to the attic where I found it. Even the box is still pristine. There is one problem: the shipping. It weighs more than three kilo’s. Sorry about that. But it will be preciously packed and swiftly send. Which one will you play first?
