Este jarrón, uno de un par, es un buen ejemplo del exuberante Jugendstil, o estilo art nouveau alemán. El Art Nouveau fue un estilo decorativo extravagante internacionalmente popular. Se define por el tratamiento orgánico de los motivos decorativos, estos últimos en su mayoría derivados de la naturaleza. Los diseñadores de Art Nouveau estilizaron las curvas sinuosas que se encuentran en la naturaleza, exploraron el crecimiento y el movimiento exuberantes y llevaron la asimetría al extremo. La figura femenina era un motivo popular del art nouveau, ya que las curvas femeninas y el cabello suelto se prestan bien a la exageración sinuosa asociada con este estilo.

Esta pieza fue realizada en la fábrica Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik (conocida como WMF) en Goppingen o Geislingen en Alemania, alrededor de 1905. 

Este jarrón  se encuentra en alguna de las colecciones más importantes de Artes Decorativas. Pertenece a la Colección de Artes Decorativas Walter C Cook, durante un período de veinticinco años, el coleccionista de Wellington Walter Cook desarrolló una importante colección de artes decorativas británicas y europeas. En 1993 donó su colección al Museo Nacional, ahora conocida como Te Papa ( Nueva Zelanda).
