Description from the seller

Flint axe from the Neolithic period.
Polished flint axe blade from Loiret, Barian basin.

During the Neolithic period, polished flint blades were made in the early agricultural communities of Loiret. Many workshops specialized in axe production have been discovered in Loiret (Nouel, 1958) and more recently (Corquilleroy and Fontenay-sur-Loing). Most of the pieces were collected from surface finds at open-air sites offering a variety of prehistoric activities.
These polished axe blades are almost always made from Cretaceous marine flint (Turonian to Campanian), which is found in large abundance in Loiret and eastern Seine-et-Marne.

This axe comes from an ancient private collection. It is in very good condition, polished all over its surface, and has an old patina.
