Description from the seller
Harvey Guzzini is often mistakenly considered the name of a lighting designer active in the 1960s and 1970s; in reality, it is the name of an Italian lamp manufacturing company founded by six Guzzini brothers (Raimondo, Giovanni, Virgilio, Giuseppe, Adolfo, and Giannunzio), which takes its name from the 1950 film Harvey, starring James Stewart. Further complicating their history, the brothers renamed the factory several times throughout the 20th century, choosing names such as Harvey Creations, Harvey Guzzini, Guzzini, iGuzzini, and Illuminazione Guzzini.
Harvey Creazioni was originally founded in 1959 in Recanati by Raimondo, who mainly focused on creating decorative objects plated in copper; four years later, in June 1963, the brothers joined in business, creating Harvey Creazioni di Guzzini, and expanding the production, which since then has included lamps and chandeliers, wall sconces, and floor lamps. The brothers appointed architect and designer Luigi Massoni—introduced to the brothers by plastic import magnate Maurizio Adreani—as head of design, public relations, and advertising.
Noti design by Harvey Guzzini includes the table lamp Mushroom by Massoni and Luciano Buttura (1965), the floor lamp Arc (1968), and the table lamps Faro (1970) and Toledo (1973). Studio 6G, a team of designers, developed the famous table lamp Clan (1968); and designers Ermanno Lampa and Sergio Brazzoli created the Nastro series (1970), the suspension lamp Orione (1970), the table lamps Sirio (1970) and Albanella (1973), the floor lamp Alba (1973), and the Alf series (1976).
Around 1976, Harvey Guzzini interrupted the production of objects plated in copper to focus on creating lighting fixtures — most of which are made of polymethyl methacrylate (acrylic). The company collaborates with the Yugoslavian Meblo for furniture production.
In 1967-68, Guzzini exhibited Gio Ponti’s Media lamp at the Domus: Formes Italiennes exhibition at the Galeries Lafayette in Paris under the name Design House (DH). Shortly after, they opened a store in Milan under the name Harvey Guzzini-DH, thereby rightfully joining the ranks of the most prestigious design houses in Italy.
This beautiful and rare 'Piantana Modello Faro' designed by Luigi Massoni from a private collection is kept in excellent condition. It was produced in 1971 by Guzzini, featuring a base and body in chrome-plated steel, with the shade in multicolored orange, which is in EXCELLENT condition (showing not even a scratch). Inside, it is equipped with two E14 socket lights.
The electrical system has been replaced for safety reasons and consists of an on/off switch with approximately 3 meters of power cable.
A gasket on top of the lamp (white in color) and a ring placed between the two lights allow for adjusting its position, thus enabling greater brightness in case of reading on the sofa or armchair.
A clip in Plexiglass slides along the rod.
The color of the bell is truly rare, and the chromes are in excellent condition.
Additionally, the bottom of the base was covered with velvet to prevent potential scratches on the parquet.
