Description from the seller

Gaetano Sciolari - Ecolight - Ivory Lamp Home Model
Gaetano Sciolari studied architecture and briefly dedicated himself to filmmaking. When his father died in 1949, Sciolari took over the family business, Sciolari Lighting, which had been active in Rome since 1892. The company expanded significantly under Gaetano's leadership. For example, the pioneering American company Lightolier, based in New York, began importing Italian-branded lighting for the U.S. market, and Lightolier's leading designer, Gerald Thurston, was notably influenced by Gaetano's work. In the 1970s, Americans wanting to add provocative fixtures created by Gaetano Sciolari to their living rooms could find them in Lightolier catalogs.

Initially, Sciolari made lamps and wall sconces that bore the marks of traditional Italian design. But in the 1950s, when he became the interior designer for the legendary Milanese lighting manufacturer Stilnovo—one of the leaders of Italian post-war design—he created revolutionary fixtures that remain his most well-known works.

Sciolari drew inspiration from a range of influences—enthusiasts see traces of Art Deco, brutalism, and more in his lighting designs—and he crafted futuristic Space Age chandeliers, ceiling lights, and pendants for Stilnovo, Stilkronen, and S.A. Boulanger that challenged the conventions of the time. A dizzying array of materials and finishes characterizes the designer's work, while geometry is prominent in every sculptural fixture: there are blown opaline glass spheres, shiny chrome tubes, and square brass lamp holders. These combinations were fundamental in developing dazzling lighting that, decades later, remains captivating in any space.

This beautiful table lamp from a private collection is kept in excellent condition. It was produced in 1968 by Valenti Luce (after Ecolight). The body is made of ivory enameled metal, with an opaline glass diffuser, a white enameled metal closing dome with a central hole, and a wide white perspex lampshade.
The opal glass diffuser has three chrome fastening screws. The perspex lampshade only rests on support.
The electrical system is original, rechecked, and perfectly functional.
