Coin: Salonina 254-268 AD, Silver Antoninianus, Antioch. Joint Reign of Gallienus.
Obverse: SALONINA AVG, diademed, draped bust right.
Reverse: CONCORDIA AVGG, Concordia seated left, holding patera and double cornucopiae.
Diameter: ± 22,3 mm
Condition: extremely fine condition. Signs of wear consistent with age and use.

CONCORDIA AVG (Concordia Augustus or Concordia Augusta): Majestic Harmony
Concordia Augusta was honoured for her role promoting understanding between co-Emperors and Caesars, and promoting marital harmony in the imperial household.
AUGUSTA SALONINA was the wife of Emperor Gallienus (253-268 AD) and mother of Valerian II, Saloninus and Marinianus.
Gallienus ruled during the Crisis of the Third Century which nearly caused the collapse of the Roman Empire. Salonina remained at Gallienus' side In these dangerous times which suggests a strong personal and political bond.
Salonina was often depicted on coins during the reign of Gallienus. Her titles included Augusta, reinforcing her symbolic role as imperial consort.
Her fate after the murder of her husband Gallienus during the siege of Mediolanum in 268 is unknown.
GALLLIENUS: Roman Emperor with his father Valerian 253-260 AD and sole Emperor 260-268 AD.
He ruled during the Crisis of the Third Century which nearly caused the collapse of the Roman Empire.
