Ancient Roman solid silver seal ring in the shape of an Evil Eye, engraved with a Galley and the Aquila holding a laurel, dating to the 2nd–3rd century AD, outside diameter about 27.9 mm and inner 18.7 x 22.7 mm, in very good wearable condition with a dark patina.

Ancient Roman solid silver sealring in the shape of an "Evil eye" showing an engraved depiction of a Roman war Galley and the Roman Aquilla holding a laurel wreath in it's beak above. The galley shows very fine details, two seated soldiers are visible, one is giving directions.
Outside diameter: ± 27,9 mm
Inside diameter: ± 18,7 x 22,7 mm
Condition: Very good and solid wearable condition with a fantastic dark silver patina. Signs of wear consistent with age and use.
Certificate of Authenticity: available upon request (pdf-format).
The eagle was a powerful symbol to the Roman military. With each Roman legion a special eagle-bearer (aquilifer) had the honour of carrying the Legionary Eagle standard into battle and to guard its existence.
The eagle was a symbol of the power and majesty of the Eternal City and was associated with Zeus (Roman Jupiter).
