Original technical drawing by Ulysse Valentin, titled Magneto Bosch – Vue Arrière, ca. 1920, in Indian ink and color pencil on drawing cardboard, 70 × 50 cm, Belgium, hand-signed with school stamps, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Original technical drawing – 'Magneto Bosch – Rear View' – circa 1920 – École Professionnelle de Mécanique, Huy (Belgium)
Beautiful original technical school drawing in East Indian ink and colored pencil, depicting a Bosch magneto (Magneto Bosch – Rear View), viewed from behind and at a scale of 3/1.
The magneto was an essential component of early combustion engines, responsible for generating the electrical current for the spark plugs. This precise cross-section shows the internal construction and operation of the Bosch ignition magnet, with the rotor, bearings, coils, contact breaker, and connection points.
The drawing was created at the École Professionnelle de Mécanique – Section Automobile in Huy, Belgium, under the supervision of Professor Ulysse Valentin, Professor of Automotive Mechanics and Head of Department.
The signature and multiple oval school stamps are clearly visible.
The work combines technical precision and aesthetic finishing: the hatching, perspective, and subtle color accents (green, purple, yellow) are characteristic of the interwar period and demonstrate the exceptional training in technical drawing of that time.

Short biography of Ulysse Valentin
Ulysse Valentin (active from the early 20th century) was a professor of automotive engineering in Hoei and Marchin (Liège province, Belgium). He trained young technicians and driver-mechanics during a time when the automobile was still in full development. Valentin was known for his didactic approach, producing large and precise diagrams that helped students understand the workings of engines and vehicles.
His education reflects the transition from horse-drawn carriages to cars. The signatures and stamps on his students' drawings and diplomas make these documents valuable testimonies of the early history of motorsport in Wallonia.
