Original technical drawing by Ulysse Valentin, hand-signed, showing the Benkard-Livenson carburateur with two sectional views, a precise piece for vintage automotive study.
Description from the seller
Original technical drawing – 'Carburateurs Ordo (Benkard-Livenson)' – Ulysse Valentin, École Professionnelle de Mécanique, Huy (Belgium), circa 1920
Beautifully preserved, hand-drawn and colored technical lesson plate from the interwar period, originating from the École Professionnelle de Mécanique – Section Automobile in Huy (Belgium).
The drawing is signed and stamped by Professor Ulysse Valentin, a recognized teacher in auto mechanics and electromechanics, who was active as head of service in Marchin and Huy during the 1920s and 1930s.
The illustration shows the cross-section of an Ordo (Benkard-Livenson) carburetor, a type used in early automobiles around 1910–1920. This carburetor was known for its combined air intake ('air constant' and 'air additionnel'), which contributed to improved combustion efficiency.
The drawing consists of two precise sections.
At the top: the fuel and air flow with clearly indicated arrows and the venturi system.
At the bottom: a cross-section of the float chamber and spray regulation, with separate supply channels for air and gasoline ('essence').
The plate is executed with fine hatching and vivid watercolor shades (pink, blue, yellow, green, and purple) — typical of Belgian technical education of that time.

Short biography of Ulysse Valentin
Ulysse Valentin (active from the early 20th century) was a professor of automotive engineering in Hoei and Marchin (Liège province, Belgium). He trained young technicians and driver-mechanics during a time when the automobile was still in full development. Valentin was known for his didactic approach, producing large and precise diagrams that helped students understand the workings of engines and vehicles.
His education reflects the transition from horse-drawn carriages to cars. The signatures and stamps on his students' drawings and diplomas make these documents valuable testimonies of the early history of motorsport in Wallonia.
