Description from the seller
Lotto 'Minerals of Tuscany' – rare finds and historic collectibles
This prestigious lot, weighing a total of 1338 grams, gathers seven specimens of Tuscan minerals, including historic pieces, museum samples, and species of extraordinary rarity, some of which are practically impossible to find today. A collection that best represents the richness and mineralogical diversity of Tuscany, with specimens from iconic locations such as Isola d’Elba, Isola del Giglio, and Pereta.
The lot includes:
Calcite – Tuscany
The most impressive piece of the collection is a massive and translucent calcite crystal weighing nearly 800 grams. Its well-developed shape, glassy surfaces, and exceptional size make it a highly impactful specimen both visually and for collectors.
Quartz with malachite and chalcopyrite – Isola del Giglio, Grosseto
Rare specimen from a location now inaccessible, as the island is a protected zone. The association of quartz, malachite, and chalcopyrite forms a highly elegant chromatic ensemble, a testament to historical finds from ancient collections now almost impossible to find.
Magnetite – Isola d’Elba (LI)
Numbered specimen (no. 4), probably originating from a museum collection. The magnetite crystals appear shiny, compact, and perfectly formed, typical of the iron mineralizations of Elba.
• Ematite – Island of Elba (LI)
A perfectly crystallized specimen, composed of a multitude of metallic, reflective lamellae. An timeless classic of Elban mineralogy, symbol of the island's mining activity.
Andradite garnet variety – Calamita Mine, Elba Island (LI)
An extremely rare and highly collectible specimen. The garnets from this provenance, known for their brown-golden hue and diamond-like luster, are now almost impossible to find.
Limonite – Isola d’Elba (LI)
A typical Elban specimen, with a warm color and a massive structure, bearing witness to the alteration processes of the iron minerals present on the island.
• Antimonite and stibiconite – Pereta, Grosseto (GR)
The rarest and most scientifically interesting piece of the lot: a sample of antimonite partially coated with stibiconite, where a clearly distinguishable, well-formed, autonomous crystal of stibiconite stands out — a condition rarely observed in this locality. The association between the two species and the crystalline form make this specimen a unique piece of the highest mineralogical value.
This lot encompasses the heart and history of Tuscan mineralogy: from the ancient Elban mines to the now-lost finds of Giglio Island, and the extremely rare stibiconite from Pereta. Each piece represents a page of geological and human history.
Kire Minerals is proud to present this refined and unique lot, selected with passion and expertise by Erik Lombini. Each sample is born from careful research and carries the authentic testimony of a territory that has made history in Italian mineralogy.
