A Tabaristan silver hemidrachm from the Abbasid era under Al Rashid AH 170, weighing 2.09 g with Sasanian style bust and fire altar, in extremely fine condition with remaining luster.

ISLAM - Abbasid Caliphate. temp. Al-Rashid, AH 169-193 / AD 786-809. Tabaristan. Silver hemidrachm o dirham tabari (2,09 g. 24 mm), anonymous type, PYE 135 = AH 170 = AD 786.
Draped Sasanian-style bust to right, wearing elaborate crown; behind and before head, ‘GDH ˗ ʾp̄zwt’ (‘[may his] glory increase’ in Pahlavi); in outer margin to left and right, ‘nywk' ˗ ʾp̄d’ (good ˗ wonderful’ in Pahlavi).
Fire altar, flanked by two attendants; above altar, star and pellet; to left, date in Pahlavi; to right, ‘tpwlstʾn’ (‘Tabaristan’ in Pahlavi).
