Description from the seller

Manuscript leaf of the Quran – Early 17th century – Ink and gold on smooth laid paper.
1 double-sided sheet – Piece rescued from a fire. The paper is handmade and, as was common at the time, polished by hand. Smoothed laid paper (Büttenpapier).
Photos 14 and 15 show the cover of the Quran but I do not have it in my possession.
Origin Near East or Persia. (Probably Iran or the Ottoman Empire, Egypt, Syria, or Tunisia).
circa 1600–1630
Brown, red, blue ink and hand-gilding.
Format 21.5cm 15cm, Text 10.5cm 6cm.
Calligraphic verses from the Quran on both sides.
Superb manuscript of the Quran, front and back, from the early 17th century, calligraphed on smooth laid paper and richly enhanced with gold.
Manuscript on smooth, handmade laid paper, written with ink and gold leaf.
Magnificent double-page leaf, front and back, from an ancient manuscript Quran, dated to the early 17th century. Text in finely written naskh script in black ink, with red vowels, blue and green diacritics, a gold frame, and gold circles marking the end of verses (āyāt). Marginal mention 'ḥizb' in red, indicating the traditional liturgical division of the Quran.
The harmonious composition, balanced margins, and fine linework attest to the work of an expert copyist. Overall good condition for a 17th-century piece. Small marginal foxing and age marks are present without affecting the text. The gilding and inks remain vivid, and the calligraphy is perfectly legible.
Partial Translation
Surah Al-Isra (الإسراء) — verses 29 to 39.
Surah Al-Isra (The Night Journey), Verses 29–39.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
And do not make your hand restrained to your neck nor extend it completely, lest you become blameworthy and regretful.
And do not keep your hand chained to your neck (out of greed), nor extend it fully (out of prodigality), for fear that you may be blamed and rendered powerless.
Indeed, your Lord extends provision to whom He wills and restricts it. Indeed, He is ever Knowing and Seeing of His servants.
Your Lord dispenses His gifts generously or restricts them as He wills. He is perfectly knowledgeable and clairvoyant towards His servants.
And do not kill your children out of fear of poverty. We provide for you and for them. Killing them is a great sin.
And do not kill your children out of fear of poverty: it is We who provide for them and for you. Killing them is truly a great sin.
And do not approach fornication. Indeed, it is an immoral act and an evil way.
And do not approach fornication: it is a turpitude and a wrong path!
And do not kill the soul which Allah has made sacred except by right. And whoever is killed unjustly, We have given his heir authority, so he should not exceed bounds in killing. Indeed, he will be aided.
And do not kill anyone whom Allah has made sacred, except in accordance with the law. And if someone is unjustly killed, We have given authority to their close relative, but they must not exceed the limits in the act of killing, for they are already supported by the Law.
And do not approach the property of the orphan except in a way that is best, until he reaches maturity. And fulfill the covenant; indeed, the covenant will be questioned.
And do not approach the property of the orphan except in the best manner, until he reaches his maturity. And fulfill your commitments faithfully, for you will be questioned about your commitments.
And give full measure when you measure, and weigh with the just balance. That is better and a better outcome.
Give the full measure when you measure, and weigh with a fair balance. This is better and leads to a good end.
And do not follow that of which you have no knowledge. Indeed, hearing, sight, and the heart—all of these—will be questioned about.
And do not pursue what you have no knowledge of, for the hearing, sight, and heart, there will be interrogation about all these.
And do not walk proudly on the earth; indeed, you will never split the earth nor reach the mountains in height.
And do not walk on the earth with arrogance: you will neither be able to split the earth nor reach the high mountains.
All of that was disliked by your Lord for its evil.
All of that, his bad part, is hated by your Lord.
That is from what your Lord has revealed to you of wisdom. And do not make alongside Allah another deity, lest you be thrown into Hell, blameworthy and rejected.
This is what your Lord has revealed to you of Wisdom. And do not set up with Allah any other deity, or you will be cast into Hell, blamed and rejected.
Very rare.
