Scale - Iron - 19th century

Double-sided cast iron scale made in France around 1880.

The scale is beautifully decorated with the coat of arms of Paris in the center (a sailing ship and lilies, known as fleurs-de-lis). The coat of arms is flanked by the Roman gods Mercury (god of commerce) and Lady Justice.

An interesting detail is that the scale was stamped multiple times by French authorities to ensure the accuracy of the measurements at the time.
