Signed handwritten letter by François Guizot, dated May 6, 1845, addressed to a friend. Written in brown ink on a sheet of vellum paper with an embossed header from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
My dear friend, you wrote to Madame de Meidan a very affectionate note for me, and I thank you for it. I hope to have the pleasure of seeing my close friends soon. But I am mainly prescribed rest, amidst the water regimen of Vichy that I am undergoing. I already feel very well. Unfortunately, there is no rest for me without solitude. As soon as I break my solitude, you will be the first to know. A thousand very sincere friendships.

François Guizot, born on October 4, 1787 in Nîmes and died on September 12, 1874 in Saint-Ouen-le-Pin, was a French historian and statesman, a member of the French Academy from 1836, and a minister several times under the July Monarchy, notably as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1840 to 1848 and President of the Council in 1847, before being overthrown by the French Revolution of 1848.
