Description from the seller

Palaeoscolex sp. (Priapulida)
Deposit: Chengjiang Biota, Yunnan (China)
Period: Lower Cambrian (~518 million years ago)

Exceptional specimen of Palaeoscolex sp., a fossil priapulid worm among the most characteristic of the Chengjiang fauna. The body, about 5 cm long, shows a natural curvature and clearly preserves the typical ringed ornamentation of the genus.

The slab, measuring 12 × 8 × 3 cm, is solid and shows no restorations or reconstructions. The fossil is readable in oblique light and retains the original brown-gray coloration due to thin organic films.

The organisms of Palaeoscolex represent one of the earliest known evidence of animals with complex bilateral symmetry, and they constitute an essential part of the Cambrian explosion. Specimens of this quality are rare and highly sought after by collectors of Precambrian and Cambrian invertebrates.
