Description from the seller

Songye Ancestor Figure.
DR Congo.

The Songyes can certainly be seen as one of the most influential ethnic societies in African tribal art. The ethnic group can be situated in the south-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, neighbouring the Luba tribe with which they share many aesthetical similarities. This particularly well proportioned object shows the typical sculptural elements of its tribe, think of the bold straight posture, strong hands pointing towards the navel and pronounced mouth. The clean cuts of shoulders, the detailed curvature of eyelids flowing into the nose and the beautifully textured horn contribute to the quality. The object is finally adorned with a leather band under its breast and a fabric around the waist.

Object type: ancestor figure
Tribe: Songye
Material: wood, leather, fabric
Height: 35 cm

The condition and potential fragments or signs of wear are documented in detail through presented photographs.

Shipment is included following further defined rates. Other delivery or pickup methods can be organised accordingly.
