Description from the seller

LEGO House pays tribute to the iconic LEGO minifigure

The LEGO House Exclusive set of this year, 'A Minifigure Tribute' (40504), is a celebration of the LEGO minifigure – an indispensable part of LEGO history since 1978. For 45 years, this small character has enabled children and adults alike to step into any imaginable LEGO adventure. This limited edition will be released on March 1, 2023.

Every year, the LEGO House Limited Edition set celebrates an iconic moment from LEGO history. One of these moments was the launch of the LEGO minifigure in 1978. The small figure makes it possible to become part of any adventure you build — whether you dream of a noisy sea battle, fighting fires in LEGO City, shooting through hyperspace with a rocket, or organizing a feast in a castle. That magical property has existed for **45 years** this year.

Therefore, this year's LEGO House Limited Edition had to be a sincere tribute to the more than 10 billion minifigures that have conquered the world since their launch. This is expressed in the form of a large-scale version of the legendary Captain Redbeard minifigure – now with special details!

Kathrine Kirk Muff, CEO of LEGO House, says:

Can you imagine your LEGO game and the LEGO House without the minifigure? I can't! The small, charming figure—just four LEGO bricks tall—is an invitation to LEGO fans of all ages to tell endless stories. To highlight an important part of LEGO history—the invention of the minifigure—the exclusive product of this year simply had to be a tribute to the minifigure. The minifigure is everywhere in LEGO House, especially in the Character Creator and World Explorer play zones. We even kicked off the 2023 season with a photo exhibition centered around the minifigure.

But which minifigure?

Since the first minifigure was released in 1978, LEGO designers have created approximately 8,000 different minifigures — with every imaginable facial expression, hairstyle, hat, beard, dress, or superhero cape. Since 2010, they even have their own collectible series: LEGO Minifigures Collectible Series.

LEGO designer Jens Nygaard Knudsen was the mastermind behind the design of the minifigure as we know and love today. He worked on at least 50 prototypes before finding the perfect design—a small figure that seamlessly fits into the scale of the LEGO System in Play.

Captain of the ship

The original Captain Redbeard minifigure from set 6285 Black Seas Barracuda was designed by Niels Milan Pedersen, and it was this very iconic figure that was chosen for a grand reinterpretation in this year's LEGO House Limited Edition.
Niels was involved in the development of countless popular LEGO sets during his long—and still active—career as a LEGO designer. Of all his sets, his favorite is, however, the 6285 Black Seas Barracuda from 1989.

Captain Redbeard is a complex design with many fun details, such as a hook instead of a hand, a wooden leg, epaulettes on the shoulders, and a black captain's hat with the 'Jolly Roger' emblem. All these details have been carefully recreated in this new set.
The construction is 30 cm high and consists of 1041 LEGO bricks. As an extra detail, the pirate wears a LEGO House bracelet on his hook hand and holds a treasure map in his other hand, with a secret reference to the designers of the product!

Captain Redbeard is the fourth LEGO House exclusive set.

The set LEGO House Exclusive: A Minifigure Tribute (40504) is exclusively available at the LEGO Store in LEGO House, Billund, Denmark.
