AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Sasanian Kings. Set of 2 AR Drachms of Hormazd IV, both with unique original patina.

2 x Hormazd IV (579-590 AD)

Hormazd IV ruled the Sasanian Empire from 579 to 590, inheriting a vast and powerful realm from his father, Khusro I. Known for his stern character and sense of justice, he sought to protect the common people from the excesses of the nobility and clergy, which earned him both respect and resentment. His reign was marked by continued warfare with the Byzantine Empire and internal strife that strained the empire’s stability. Ultimately, his harsh treatment of the aristocracy led to a revolt, and he was deposed and executed in a coup that brought his son, Khusro II, to the throne.

These coins were purchased in various European auctions. I am selling to rid my private collection.
