Description from the seller
Rarity, collectible
Quickly sold out after its publication, this book immediately became a collector's item among lovers of the genre;
For auction, a first edition of the book, still sealed, and some images taken from a sample copy in the gallery.
A magnificent publication with Swiss binding and a visible spine.
Published by Editions Paris Musées, this book accompanies the exhibition on Paolo Roversi at the Palais Galliera.
The beautifully printed and edited volume unveils 50 years of photography and reveals how the artist captured fashion, nudes, and portraits to create a unique body of work. This is the first monograph dedicated to the photographer in Paris.
Of Italian origin, Paolo Roversi moved to Paris in 1973. Since then, he has worked for prestigious magazines such as Vogue, Egoïste, and Luncheon. His career has been marked by collaborations with the greatest designers, notably Yohji Yamamoto, Romeo Gigli, and Rei Kawakubo for Comme des Garçons.
His signature is immediately recognizable: subtle sepia tones of black and white in daylight, and the density and depth of colors under artificial light. Over the years, Paolo Roversi has developed and invented his own photographic language, embracing coincidences and accidents as opportunities for renewal.
The greatest models have passed before his lens: Kate Moss, Natalia Vodianova, Luda Egorova, Kirsyen Owen, Stella Tennant, Gemma Ward, Naomi Campbell. They always pose with simplicity; their presence is intense. Paolo Roversi is simultaneously at the center of the system and at the same time distant, far from fleeting trends. In pursuit of beauty, he creates a singular work over which time has no influence.
This book, which gathers 140 works including unpublished images and Polaroid prints, reveals the professional and artistic journey of an exceptional photographer!
