"Ah! My Goddess" (original Japanese title: "Aa! Megami-sama") is a romantic fantasy manga series by Kōsuke Fujishima, first published in 1988 and running until 2014. The story follows Keiichi Morisato, a college student who accidentally contacts the "Goddess Help Line" and summons the goddess Belldandy, who grants his wish to stay with him — leading to a heartwarming, magical love story.
Fujishima, known for his detailed art and love of cars and motorcycles, is also the creator of You're Under Arrest! and a character designer for several famous video games (Tales of Symphonia, Sakura Wars). His unique blend of fantasy, romance, and mechanical precision made Ah! My Goddess a beloved classic.
The goddesses in the series are inspired by Norse mythology — Belldandy comes from "Verdandi," while her sisters Urd and Skuld also share names with mythological Norns who control fate. This mythological twist was unusual in manga at the time and gave the story a unique charm. Another rare aspect of the series is that it portrays a long-term, stable romantic relationship, which is uncommon in most manga of this genre.
