Autographed letter by Charles Jean Fillion, Bishop of Saint-Claude, dated 12 April 1859, written in brown ink on vellum double sheet with the bishop’s letterhead, three pages, featuring a Three Napoleon III stamps Second Empire affranchissement and red PD mark, from France; language French; dimensions 13.2 x 21 cm; condition Very good; includes Certificate of Authenticity and is signed by the author.

Signed handwritten letter by Charles Jean Fillion, Bishop of Saint-Claude, dated April 12, 1859, in Saint-Claude.
Written in brown ink on a double sheet of vellum paper, with the header of the Bishopric of Saint-Claude.
The letter is addressed to an ecclesiastical correspondent and concerns his studies and the prospect of obtaining his doctorate. Fillion mentions several contacts in Rome and transmits a recommendation intended for a prelate currently staying in Italy.
It bears a characteristic Second Empire postage franking consisting of three Napoleon III non-laureate stamps: two 40-centime orange stamps and one 20-centime blue stamp. The diamond-shaped cancel with small figures is clear, the red 'PD' mark indicates full postage, and the departure and arrival cancels allow tracking of the mail's journey.
The letter is handwritten in brown ink on two pages, with the address on the back. This document is from the very beginning of Charles Jean Fillion's episcopate, who was appointed in 1858.
