Salvador Dalí as illustrator for Cantos de Maldoror, a limited edition set of 6 books in Spanish, 360 pages, published in 2011 by Artika/Planeta, paperback with a case.
Description from the seller
In 1934, Salvador Dalí illustrated one of the most shocking works of the 19th century: The Songs of Maldoror, a collection of six poetic cantos published in 1869 by the Uruguayan-French Isidore Ducasse, better known by his pseudonym Count de Lautréamont.
Unique edition with facsimile-sized reproductions of the 30 prints, 11 unpublished preparatory drawings, and 4 state proofs by Salvador Dalí for The Cantos of Maldoror, based on the originals deposited at the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí.
In Figueres
The prints have been made on 200-gram Modigliani insize natural white paper and hand-glued onto 200-gram Tatami White paper.
Edition of The Cantos of Maldoror based on the first Spanish translation of the work, made by Julio Gómez de la Serna in 1925, with a prologue by Ramón Gómez de la Serna and completed by Manuel Serrat Crespo and Henriette Viguié.
Limited edition of 2,998 copies, numbered from I to L for the first 50 and from 1 to 2,948 for the remaining (the copy I am presenting is number 942), as recorded in a notarial deed (appears on the last page of the sixth canto).
Printed stamps in 5 colors and 12 engravings illustrating the opening and closing of each of the edges, format 29×41, 360 pages among the 6 notebooks; a study book with a double cover format (2 books in one with two covers, so it can be read in both directions), 269 pages, is added. Aged iron plate with a text by Ducasse is also included.
All stored in a handcrafted, aged beech wood case-briefcase with metal corner protectors.
Iron closures and handle, equally aged, with silkscreen printing of the title and Dalí's face, lined inside with red silk. The condition is new; it has only been taken out to take photographs (see the last photo before unsealing). The photos shown are just a part as an example.
Package dimensions are 57×48×23 cm and weigh 11 kg. It is shipped via Correos de España.
