Description from the seller

The object is a hand-carved African sculpture, probably made of ebony.
This is a so-called 'Ujamaa' or 'Tree of Life' sculpture, which typically represents the family or community.
This type of sculpture is a well-known example of Makonde art from East Africa (Tanzania and Mozambique).
The sculptures often depict many interwoven figures that are carved from a single tree trunk. They symbolize the unity and cohesion of the community and the family.
As far as I know from the available information, the sculpture comes from the Belgian Congo, 1948!
