Masamune Shirow (the pen name of Masanori Ota) is a manga artist known for creating technologically complex and philosophically rich universes. His works combine cyberpunk, politics, artificial intelligence, and a highly detailed vision of the future. In addition to Ghost in the Shell, he is also the author of Appleseed and Dominion.
Originally published in 1989, Ghost in the Shell is one of the most influential cyberpunk manga of all time. It inspired the iconic 1995 animated film and an entire universe of anime, OVAs, series, and later adaptations.
The poster you have dates from 1997, a time when the franchise was enjoying major international momentum thanks to the success of the 1995 film.
An interesting fact is that Shirow rarely appears in public: he is famous for being extremely private, and there are very few photographs of him. Despite this discretion, he has created some of the most influential universes in modern cyberpunk.
