GRAND LIVRE PHOTO by Mário Cravo Neto (1947-2009), Brazilian photographer, sculptor, and draftsman.
Mário Cravo, son of sculptor Mário Cravo Júnior, was one of Brazil's first contemporary photographers. From a young age, he was in contact with a circle of artists, and as a teenager, he met Pierre Verger, a friend of his father. In 1968, he studied for two years at the Art Students League of New York. After that, he returned to Brazil and exhibited for the first time the sculptures created in New York at the XII São Paulo Art Biennial. He mainly worked with black and white photographs depicting the religion of Candomblé. In 2005, he exhibited at the Rencontres d'Arles festival.
He died in 2009 in Salvador due to skin cancer. Cravo is the father of the Brazilian photographer Christian Cravo.
