Azurite crystals with sulfides (pyrite and chalcopyrite) in a quartz matrix from the Alnif Mining District, Souss-Massa-Draâ Region, Morocco; weight 252 g, size 8 cm x 7.6 cm x 4.4 cm, with a Certificate of Authenticity.
Description from the seller
This specimen mainly displays incredibly blue azurite, along with aggregations of vivid shining sulfides coating a quartz matriz and one tiny well crystalized quartz. Most of this specimens azurite are formed in fibrous, fan-like projections. The contrast of the azurite surrounding the quartz matriz together with the pyrite and chalcopyrite sulfides, give the specimen a truly unique and colorful appearance.
Azurite and also malachite are known to form in union with each other since their chemical makeup is very similar. In fact, the presence of more or less water in the location of formation is enough to determine whether an abundance of malachite over azurite, or vise-versa, will accumulate.
These minerals tend to be found near copper deposits, which accounts for the vibrant colors the minerals display. This association of azurite and sulfides on a quartz matrix was found near M'Cissi, Alnif, Tinghir Province, Souss-Massa-Draâ Region, Morocco.
