Moonstone is a gem-quality feldspar characterized by a distinctive, milky glow called adularescence, which appears as a shimmering, bluish-white sheen that seems to float across the stone's surface, like moonlight on water. It can range in color from nearly colorless to white, peach, green, gray, or brown, with a deep blue shimmer considered the most valuable variety. Due to its softness (6–6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale), it is often cut into cabochons and used for pendants and earrings to protect it from damage.
