Description from the seller
A beautiful, large polished shell of Turbo sarmaticus, commonly known as the South African Turbo, is a species of sea snail, a marine mollusk belonging to the family Turbinidae. Its non-perforated shell has a globular, concave shape. Its color pattern is matte brown, fiery above, and below more or less striped or spotted with white, usually showing a lower orange-red layer, between which and the mother-of-pearl layer there is a layer of intense black. The very short spire is conical. 5-6 whorls are convex but concave above. The upper ones contain rotating lirations. They are often margined, with the last few rows of nodules, where the crown is more visible and permanent. The large, globular aperture is very slanted and beautifully pearly inside. The outer lip is thin, edged with intense black in the middle. The mother-of-pearl layer does not reach the edge. The arched columella is broad, slightly developed below, and broader hollowed above. The parietal wall is eroded with a black spot. Dimensions—50/75/95. Highly recommended for collectors and interior decorators.
