Description from the seller

Beautiful Melo amphora shell, also known as the volute Diadem, is a very large sea snail, a marine mollusk in the family Volutidae, volutes. This large shell has a bulbous or nearly oval outline. The columella has three easily recognizable oblique folds. The opening is wide and almost as long as the shell itself, and it has no operculum. It features a very large, swollen, and posteriorly expanded body whorl. One of its most striking features is the arm with prominent, curved, hollow spines. These spines become obsolete in later growth stages. The spire is usually very short. It is said that the color of the Melo amphora shell is highly variable. It is usually brown, white, or light orange, often with darker brown spiral bands. The interior is glazed, most often in cream or pinkish-orange. Dimensions - 60/80/145mm. I highly recommend it to collectors and interior decorators.
