AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

The beautiful shell of Tonna perdix, commonly known as the partridge tuna, is a species of very large sea snail, a marine mollusk in the family Tonnaidae. The pattern and brownish color of the shell resemble the plumage of a partridge, hence the common name. The oblong-ovoid shell is ventricose and quite thin. It is reddish-brown in color, pleasantly variegated by white spots in transverse series, mostly crescent-shaped and more or less distant. The conical spire is slightly protruding and pointed. It consists of five to six whorls, which are equipped with numerous ribs, often expanded, slightly convex, and separated by barely visible furrows. The suture is very pronounced and is slightly recessed towards the body whorl. The aperture is large, ovoid, marked by transverse and slightly protruding stripes that correspond to the furrows on the outside. The interior of this cavity is tawny. The outer lip is thin, curled, slightly wavy, and decorated with a white stripe along the entire length of the interior, except for the edge, which is dark brown. The inner lip extends throughout the shell. It is very thin, transparent, and terminates at the bottom with a protruding plate that covers the navel and appears to be part of it. The column is smooth, polished, and forms a thick rib on the left side of the navel, marked with cross-ribbing, terminating at the periphery of the base. Dimensions: 55 x 75 x 100 mm. Highly recommended for collectors and interior decorators.
