Description from the seller
Sasanian Kings. AR Drachm. Mint state!
Khusro II (591-628 AD).
Khusro II, known as Khusro Parviz, ruled the Sasanian Empire from 590 to 628 and presided over both its last great expansion and its rapid collapse. Restored to the throne with Byzantine support after being briefly deposed, he soon turned against his former allies and launched an ambitious series of campaigns that brought the empire to its greatest territorial extent, stretching from Egypt to the Caucasus. His later years were marked by growing autocracy, heavy taxation, and internal unrest, all intensified by the long and exhausting war with Byzantium. The eventual military defeats, court intrigues, and a palace coup that ended his life left the empire fractured, setting the stage for the Arab conquests that followed soon after.
Mint state coin with a very pleasant toning!
