Medieval Crusader States silver denier coin of Bohemund III from Antioch (1163–1201 AD), about 17.1 mm in diameter, Metcalf 378, acquired from an auction house in the Netherlands in 2025 with a certificate available upon request for items over €100.

Coins from the Crusader States were not only simple currency; they were symbols of power and legitimacy. By combining Christian imagery with local styles, rulers used them to assert authority and reinforce their right to rule in a highly contested region.
CRUSADER States, Principality of Antioch, silver Denier, Bohemund III 1163-1201 AD
Obverse: Obverse : +BOAMVNDVS, Profile bust with crescent left and star right.
Reverse: +ANTIOCHIA, Small cross with crescent in first angle.

Bohemond III of Antioch was captured during the battle of Harim in 1164, but was released by Nur ad-Din for a ransom of 150.000 dinars.
During the Third Crusade Bohemond met with Guy of Lusignan and King Richard 'Lionheart' of England, but he did not provide military support to the Crusades and later signed a ten-year truce with Saladin.
He married four times, but in 1180 he was excommunicated for repudiating his second wife Theodora to marry Sibylla who was described as a witch.
Bohemond III ruled for almost 40 years and was one of the longest serving princes of the Kingdom of Jerusalem.
