Description from the seller
This copy is the only signed example available on the internet of the 2012 edition (not to be confused with the reprints of 2018 and 2022). It features 280 full-page photographs in black and white and color, including 72 in color and 24 double-page spreads, measuring 35 cm x 52 cm. The book is bound in half black cloth. It is in excellent overall and internal condition, with a slight, non-serious impact mark at the bottom of the spine (see photo).
Heavy object to handle with caution (nearly 3.5 kilograms), shipped in protected packaging with guaranteed traceability.
Sensual and slightly surreal, the nude photographs by Ralph Gibson frame female forms in an organic and graphic way, referencing art history while innovating in the field of erotic imagery. In this XXL-format volume, Gibson's shots evoke a visceral sensation and appeal to tactile desire. Flip through this charming homage to the contours and curves of the female body and experience the intimacy of the lens.
Born in Los Angeles in 1939, Ralph Gibson was influenced by French cinema of the Nouvelle Vague and the Nouveau Roman, as well as surrealism. He created his own publishing house, Lustrum Press, to produce original books that traditional publishing houses then refused to publish. In his work, female nudity plays an important role. He even stated: 'A photographer once said that the beauty of women is infinite. Maybe it was me... and I still persist today.' He also questions: 'If we know even before turning the page of a book that the next will feature a new photograph of female nudity, how can we make this work sufficiently interesting? We must avoid the trap of classic variations on the same theme, which is so common in art.'
